Chapter One:

“The First Dream”

~~~~~~~~~~~
All I ever wanted was to be loved,
Was that to much to ask for?
But when I got the love I wanted,
I wish I had not found it.
~~~~~~~~~~~

Humid, sunny and long are the days in Florida, where time seems to last forever and but a minuet all at once. Each day full of love, surprises, dreams, and broken hearts. Lost yet found confusion enters our minds and hearts as the raw air and sweat seeps into out skin and the world comes alive and dies with only one dream.

*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*

Jade exhausted after a long day at work was thankful and relived to finally return home after her long day at work. Her uniform was unmistakably covered by spilled food and beverages. This had to be the worst first day on a job that anyone has ever had in the history of first days.

First, her uniform was two sizes to small and very uncomfortable. That made her feel overweight and she was sure every one noticed, and which she was sure they would not forget. Now on she was sure that she would be labeled the fat girl. Second this was her first time as a waitress, and never experiencing this before added a lot of pressure. It did not help that they gave her practically no training at all. The situation would have been better if the three girls she was assigned to work with had not called in sick. Jade had secretly wondered it the girls had planed to do that all a long to be cruel. Luckily for Jade though her new job was at a restaurant she knew her friends would never visit.

The restaurant was in an odd location and was a bit on the pricy side. She was thankful for that! Most her friends were rich but they tended to stay at the local clubs and very rarely are at pricy places. They liked to flaunt their money and what better a place to do that then at a local dinner where the food was cheap. They called it being adventurous. Only two of them actually worked for a living and were close to her situation. How she wound up being friends with them is still uncertain to her too. She was almost positive that her friends would not visit the restaurant, at least not any time soon. That fact alone gave Jade some comfort. She knew she had to have looked like a fool tonight and would have hated for her friends to witness that.

What would her friends have thought seeing their so called friend of talent making a mess of herself and with the appearance of a cow, God only knows? The last thing she needs from them is pity. It was bad enough that she was twenty seven, the third oldest in the group, unmarried and was never able to get a good collage education! If only she had not lost her parents so early then maybe her life would have been different. Oh well no use worrying about it now. What is done is done, she told herself.

Lazily Jade entered her apartment; it was a cheap place but served her purpose it kept her off the streets and safe. She locked her door and sluggishly made her way into her bedroom. It was a small one bedroom apartment but it was good enough for her she didn’t need much space, as long as she had enough room to relax.

*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*

If one were to enter the apartment, walk in the front door and look to the right, one would first see the small living room joined to the small dining room. The dining room being connected to the small kitchen by way of a bar, so there is no need of a dining room table. That alone added a good difference to the left over space. The living room consisted of a small navy blue couch facing away from the door towards a small TV in the back of the room. Next to the small couch could be found a small pine crafted end table with an elegant pale colored lamp that set a soft homey feel to the room. Next to the TV on the other side of the room could be found a matching tall and skinny pine crafted bookcase which held an interesting variety of books; books in which that on cerned the subjects of Beliefs, Dreams, Fantasy, Romance, Comedy, Drama, and Mystery.

Then if one looked to the left from the front door, one would see a short hall way with one door in the center of the left wall and one door at the end. If one were to enter the door on the left wall they would enter the small bathroom with a tiled shower, a small round sink and an oddly shaped toilet. Jade often referred to the toilet saying that it reminds her of a hat box. The inerter décor consisted of Jade flowers and dark blue. This was the core reason she had chosen the apartment

And finally, if one would exit the bathroom and walk into the door at the end of the hall one would find a small and quaint bedroom. Consisting of a single bed up against the far wall, with a dark blue comforter; another pine crafted end table a twin of the one in the living room with the identical elegant pale colored lamp next to the bed; and across from the bed there is an oversized Navy Blue chair with tall arm rests almost blocking the closet. Jade had no room or money for a dresser, so all her cloths were in the large closet a long with her shoes and some more books. Jade if you could not tell enjoys reading more then any other hobby.

Slowly changing out of her work clothes and into her pajamas, Jade breathed a sigh of relief that she would soon be able to climb into bed and have a rest. "Boy… I am tired!" she said in a yawn to her orange Manx cat Max, who was continently sleeping atop her bed. He replied with a long meow as he too yawned and jumped down to greet her by rubbing his head against her legs. Jade reached down to pick him up, and then made her way over to the chair on the other side of room in which she flopped down and began stroking Max’s fur. As she leisurely relaxed, her mind wandered, and began contemplating the crazy day she'd had. Before long she had fallen into a deep calming sleep.

“Well as you know my story begins on a clear starry night.

And it has been three years since I have had love. My past love left me for my best friend Tammy, and since then I have met a few men that seemed great, but they were not meant for me. A lot of empty promises and lonely nights, it has only made me feel disheartened. Love has not been an option for me and has eluded me. I sometimes wonder if something is wrong with me, and that is why I am still alone. I am so tired of the game and feeling depressed; I started to consider giving into the next guy that came along who made a pass at me.

But then I spotted him, the tall dark haired guy with bright green eyes. So rare that it was like something I have only read about in a romance novel or seen in an anime. He was staring straight at me. It was as if he had read my mind. His expression was blank but his eyes seamed mysterious and threatening at the same time. .

My heart was pounding, I was so nervous and excited at the same time, almost afraid of the mystery man. My instincts told me to leave my feet refused to move. The stranger slowly approached and I took a step back, bumping into barstool and knocking over my drink. I tried to avoid his eyes but they called out to me. The dark stranger slowly walked across the room and reached out to touch my check and then I woke up.

“So that is how your dream ended?” Commented Rose as she sipped her tea on the other end of the phone. “Do you know who the guy was?” she added.

“No, I haven’t the faintest clue who he was, I have never seen him before. I did not even catch his name, but I am curious to know if there is such a guy out there like that and for me?” Jade replied.

Rose sat there silent while she considered what Jade had just told her. She whished she had dreams like Jade. Her dreams were boring and empty, nothing ever as exciting or interesting as Jade’s. Maybe it is due to all the books she reads. Years ago when she had first met Jade she thought her new friend was just imaginatively full of tall tales, but as the years progressed she began to wonder if Jade’s dreams had meant anything. So they started reading books about Dreams, but nothing ever confirmed or denied if they did. With silence filling the air Rose decided it was probably the best time to end the conversation by the excuse that someone was knocking at the door.

Jade hung up the phone and stretched. She would have thought after a day like the last she would not have any dreams. And she would have also thought sleeping in that chair all night should have given her body un-comfort, but it didn’t and she did. With only an hour till she had to clock in again Jade did not have the time to worry about the dream. She quickly took a shower, dressed, ate breakfast and left.

When she arrived at work her good mood vanished she was again the only waiters for her station. This time though she took her time carefully watching what she was doing. The pressure was not as bad as the night before and she didn’t drop a thing, though there were a few spills. The only good thing about the girls now showing up again was the fact that Jade is able to keep all the tips that is if she gets any.

"A Good Night Kiss" was a small but cozy restaurant, consisting of three main dining rooms as well as a bar with couches, bar stools, and an elaborate brick fireplace. The dining areas are situated near the front of the building whereas the bar was nestled towards the back. The bar's position in relation to the dining areas gave it an intimate setting and made it feel like a restaurant in itself. It has the perfect date atmosphere and was nicknamed after all the wonderful good night kisses that couples had shared. The nickname had become so popular that the owners decided to change the name for good; which has proven to be quite profitable and has brought in many customers out of curiosity. The key colors of the inerter and exterior of the restaurant included burgundy, cherry wood and charcoal.

Jade was thankful that is was a weeknight and not the busy weekend, for if it were she was sure that she would have been out of a job by now.

Opening….

As I leaned back in my cozy green velvet chair I thought of the book “The Velvet Room” written by Zilpha Keatley Snyder, oh so may years ago.. Which is the whole reason I created this room, and made this cozy velvet chair.. I wanted a place of my own like the girl in the book, a place I could call mine and mine alone. A place where I could collect my thoughts, read, or just to have a place to sit there and bask in the beauty of life. Kind of like the girl in the book.

It has been an odd few years and I have changed a lot but I do not feel as lost, and with out purpose like before. And one thing still remains the same; I still believe in God. With out him my life would be worthless, literally worthless. But that is enough of that for now.

Let me start in the beginning…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“What do you mean you’re moving?” Christen yelled! “What about me? Where will I live? You know I can not afford a place of my own. And you know I can’t work right now, school takes up all my time!” She added with tears falling from her eyes.
Annette felt bad about it but she couldn’t help that she had to move. “Look you didn’t have to take those four years off before going to collage! I worked hard to get to this point in my life and I am happy to have gotten a job, especially one where they will pay for me to move and the first month of rent. I would be stupid to pass up this chance of a life time!!! Can’t you just be happy for me for a change and support me! You can move back in with mom and dad!” Annette replied angry at her older sister ruining her excited happy mood.
Christen wiped her eyes “That was mean Annette you know why I took a break from school, I couldn’t afford collage! I wasn’t as lucky as you to get a bunch of scholarships, and you know I have to stay here for my doctors! It took me two years to get them, I can’t just leave now! AND I am VERY happy for you, and VERY proud of you! I wish I had your perseverance!”
“I’m sorry” Annette replied “I am just scared and excited. Forgive me?”
“Of course I do! We are sisters after all, and I am sorry to! How long till the big move? And congratulations on the new job!” Christen replied with a forced smile.
“Four months, I have to get back to school!” Annette said quickly and left the apartment before Christen could reply.
Welcome!
As I mentioned above this is my place where I will post one of the books I am working on so that you may see a taste of the work I can do. Just so you know this is not the main story I am working on right now. And it may be rough because it is not my main project at the moment. I will update it as I go and will make all announcements and updates in this color.
I do not have a name for this book yet and I am open to suggestions!
I want your honest feed back and your honest options, please keep the criticism constructive and do not flame me if you do not like. Meaning if this is not what you like to read then don’t bash it because of that. Thank you!
